I first heard the phrase “the whole horizon” about six or seven years ago, in the lyrics of a beautiful song entitled “Great Are You” by Downhere, and it always stuck with me. It’s also an interesting coincidence that the album on which it appears was originally released on my birthday
I’ve used “thewholehorizon” as usernames on numerous sites and messengers since then, to the point where it almost feels like part of my own name. It was also the identity I used to start sharing my artwork and graphics, so it’s what most of my fans knew me by.
A couple years ago is when I first tried to make an official “The Whole Horizon” website, but by the time I bought thewholehorizon.com, some things came up and that got put on hold.
When January of 2007 came around, I received a notice that the domain was about to expire, and there was no way I was going to let that happen, so I renewed it and went ahead and got the .net (which I thought sounded better) and the .org too. It had been a year since I had even had anything to do with “thewholehorizon”, and I suddenly felt inspired to get back into it, start a new site, and reconnect with my old fans.
By February, it was ready to go, and so THEWHOLEHORIZON.NET was born.
Originally, the site was just going to be my portfolio. But that simply wasn’t enough. I wanted more. MORE!The first addition was a blog, because only posting about site updates is boring. I added a few pages with random personal tidbits so visitors could get to know me a little more, and there’s still plenty I want to add to those.
I also wanted to offer free hosting to other websites with a similar purpose to mine, because it really helps site owners that are trying to move up in the WWW. If it weren’t for Chessy at State of Daydream offering to host me back when I was using the identity of “Casey”, I know I wouldn’t be anywhere right now.
My most recent additions are visitor “goodies”. When surfing sites through my affiliates, I find that most of them have things that visitors can use, the most popular of which (much to my dismay) is myspace stuff, so I’m trying to include stuff that will appeal to the masses.
I still have various ideas for what else I’d like to have around here, so check back for updates!
